eLearning Awards 2009-2010 of the European Schools

Sponsored by the Slovenian Presidency

1.       Introduction

The fourth edition of the eLearning Awards of the European Schools will take place this school year. The aim of these awards is to recognise and reward innovative uses of Information and Communication Technology in Education (ICTE) whilst showcasing teachers’ professionalism and pupils’ creativeness. This project should be in a form that could easily be shared on Learning Gateway.

As lead partners of the event in 2008-2009, the Distance Teaching Working Group and the central office again invite teachers, pupils and schools to submit their ICTE projects to the Central Office of the European Schools.

The eLearning Awards will reward the best four examples of innovative uses of ICT in European schools and will include an award in each of four categories including teachers, primary pupils, secondary pupils and Schools. Examples of previous winners can be found on Learning Gateway.

This year’s eLearning Awards are sponsored by the Slovenian Presidency.

eLearning Awards submissions are to be posted to the Learning Gateway. The deadline for project submissions is 19 April 2010.

Projects will be evaluated by the Distance Teaching Working Group and an external expert. The main criteria against which projects will be evaluated are project execution, contents, didactics, innovation, creativeness and pedagogical usefulness, e.g. of Class server or Studywiz exercises or digital videos for visual presentations.

Award winners will be invited to attend an eLearning Awards ceremony in their School.

2.       Rules

Primary and secondary pupils and teachers of the European Schools may validly enter the eLearning Awards competition.

Submissions may concern part of a school, a set of resources or a project or activity. Project submissions must be posted to the Learning Gateway by 19 April 2010. Evaluation is Internet-based, i.e. the evaluation team will accept neither CD-Roms nor printed documents.

A project can only be submitted once and in one category.

Projects are welcome in all languages taught in the European Schools but summary information in one of the three vehicular languages must be appended to all submissions. All submissions must include key information about the project and its organisation.

All valid projects will stay online on the Learning Gateway with exception of a contrary opinion from the jury.

3.       Technical requirement

Project submissions for the eLearning Awards remain property of the school/pupil(s) or teacher(s). The evaluation team reserves the right to make the material freely available on the Learning Gateway for educational purposes.

Projects may contain no statement, fact, information or quote that may damage or harm any individual or group of individuals. Projects may contain no statement, fact, information or quote that may encourage the persecution of individuals on account of race, opinion, nationality, gender, occupation or other beliefs. Project submissions that encourage crime or the violation of legislation are similarly banned.
